The Orange and Alexandria Railroad
The Orange and Alexandria Railroad is well documented in books and on the Internet. The orginal Orange and Alexandria Railroad roadbed forms an entry road to the park and a portion of the trail system. The Orange and Alexandria Railroad within Lake Accotink Park was constructed and was operational in the early 1850s. It played a role in the Civil War of 1861 - 1865. Subsequently the Railroad path in the park was reconfigured and the orginial O&A RR bed was abandoned.
